What gaming monitor to choose?

Choosing a gaming monitor is not such a simple matter. The better chosen, the more fun you will have. What parameters should you pay attention to? Which models and at what price range are recommended? We suggest

The graphics card – where to start

We do not necessarily have to start with setting the budget. Of course, this stage is also important, but at the very beginning we should pay attention to the parameters of the graphics card of our computer.

What does a graphics card allow for?

The answer to this question greatly narrows our field of choice. First of all, it is about what resolution it can handle

Screen diagonal

What screen diagonal for a gaming monitor?

Less important is the amount of space we have for the monitor on our desk. Sometimes, however, this parameter must also be taken into account. However, it is not true that the larger the diagonal of the screen, the greater the comfort of work for the user. If we will not be able to place a large monitor far enough, a smaller model will be much better. The most popular monitors are those with a diagonal of 24 inches. From 30 inches we are talking about equipment of a higher price category.

It is worth remembering that a well-chosen monitor is one that we can see with our eyes without having to move our head.

Resolution

What resolution to choose?

The parameter responsible for the detail of the image. We have at our disposal

  • Full HD (1920 x 1080) – the most common solution, affordable, which works well for monitors under 25 inches,
  • QHD (2560 x 1440) – dedicated primarily for monitors from 27 inches upwards; users who need a larger working area and image detail will be satisfied with it,
  • 4K Ultra HD (3180 x 2160) – an offer for graphic designers and very demanding gamers, which presents a very large working area to use.

Choosing a gaming monitor matrix

We can choose from the following matrix types:

  • TN – currently the basic type of matrix used in monitors; fast response time and not much delay in displaying the image is its advantage even in inexpensive monitors, refresh rate of 144 Hz is also considered sufficient. The disadvantages are worse color reproduction and narrow viewing angles,
  • IPS – the technology derived from TV screens provides better color reproduction and wide viewing angles. The disadvantages include lower refresh rate and worse response time,
  • VA – an intermediate solution that combines the advantages of IPS and TN matrices. More and more popular

Other important parameters

A thoughtful purchase of a gaming monitor must be preceded by an analysis of parameters such as:

  • refresh rate – the image refresh rate for a gaming monitor is at least 75 Hz. Of course, the more modern and demanding the hardware, the refresh rate should be higher – preferably 120 Hz,
  • image synchronization – synchronization technologies are responsible for smooth display of the image on the screen; you can choose from FreeSync, AMD, Nvidia, G-Sync,
  • response time – a comfortable game usually starts with the value of this parameter at the level of 5 ms, although modern monitors offer even 1 ms,
  • additional features – e.g. 3D function allowing to play games adapted for 3D imaging, or HDR technology that translates into more vivid and deeper colors
